Chapter Nine: What is this? An Interview?

We stood in the shadows of the many tents, trucks, vans and other things the army had laid out for the cure. “Okay,” I said turning to my team, “Follow me, the group of people we’re looking for consist of two Hunters, a Boomer and a Smoker.” I informed them, “I’ll spot them, I’m not sure if they’ll notice me but… Yeah.” I said.
They all nodded and we headed down the street. Of course, the zombies noticed us and ran towards us, their deformed sounds of growls and yells made it much more scary, I aimed my handgun at a few and shot, flinching slightly. I never really shot a gun before, only the bee-bee gun my grandpa had, plus the sound of the gun fire brought back memories of my infection. “Alex, where do we go?” Fred called out as he pushed a few zombies away from him before shooting them, getting a head-shot. I looked around some, “Come on, it’s a few blocks away.” I said and we rushed down the street. The street wasn’t too crowded, thanks to the toppled over cars and trucks. “Wait,” I said as I peeked down the alley way that I use to call “home”.
I didn’t see anything or anyone. “Come on,” I said. We carefully walked down the alley way, I stayed crouched down in front of the group with Derrick next to me.
“Boomer!” Fred yelled I heard the vomiting sound then turned and saw the boiled covered body of said Boomer. He was way at the end of the alley way. I stood up right and began to shoot at the Boomer with my two pistils before he was close enough to puke on us. The Boomer blew up leaving just the lower half of his undead body. I stopped then realized something… That could have been Tyler? I shook it off and we kept going down the alleyway. I stopped at the end of the alleyway, I turned to my team.
“Wait here. Don’t come to help unless I call for you.” I told them.
“Alex, what are you trying to prove?” I heard Elizabeth ask from behind me. I turned to them and sighed, “Well?” she pressured.
“It’s… It’s hard to explain.” I said and looked down at the ground before hitting a nearby dumpster with my foot in frustration, “God damnit!” I cursed loudly before taking a deep breath I sighed, and thought about it some. It seemed to cliché for me to go out there have Josh remember me and us fall madly in love all over again. ‘Cause the odds of that happening are lower than the odds of me wearing a dress… Which are pretty low. I looked at them then finally gave in, “Fine. You can come. But! Don’t ask any questions and don’t shoot anything! If you get pounced or something of that sort don’t shoot just shove them away, understand?” Fred and Elizabeth nodded, I waited for Derrick’s nod but he only made a sound like, “Hmph.” I sighed again then turned and started walking down the alley way again.
As we approached the door of the place, I crouched down and went ahead, “Stay there.” I said taking a few steps before opening the door I was then pounced on imminently, I waited for the agonizing pain of the claws but they never came, instead I felt the body being knocked off of me, I stood up and saw Kali stumbled back some. We stared at each other before I said, “Kali?” I whispered it softly, in case she couldn’t tell it was me.
“Is she talking to that Hunter?” I vaguely heard Fred whisper to Elizabeth. Kali seemed to realize that I was human. I’m not sure what made her think I would ever do anything to hurt or, maybe it was the fact that I had a group of other humans with me and we were all holding guns that made her screech then jump over a nearby fence, running away. I sighed and opened the door wider, “Who was that?” Elizabeth asked.
I looked over at her, “Oh, that was Kali, she was a friend when I was infected.” I said, I decided to keep things simple, and not have to explain everything.
I shined my flashlight around the room, I could only see boxes and crates, “They’re not here…” I said then turned back to my team, “We have to look somewhere else of them.” I told them.
“W-what?” Fred said then did a face-palm, “Where else could they be?” he asked.
I tapped my chin and thought for a while, “Someone should stay here in case they come back,” I said.
“Me and Derrick’ll stay.” Elizabeth said and smiled at me, “You and Fred go look for your friends.” She said.
I smiled back and turned to Fred, “Let’s go.” I said and we started walking back down the alleyway leaving Derrick and Elizabeth behind to watch if they came back or not.
We walked back down the alleyway and peeked over the corner, “Do you have any idea on where they can be?” Fred asked.
I sighed and shook my head, “Not a clue.” I said, and thought for a long time, “Fred, when you were infected, how would you get… Food?” I asked as I kicked open a door, I loved being human! We walked in slowly and shot at the few zombies that stumbled around.
“Well,” Fred started saying as we reloaded, “Most of the time I would hang around Safe Rooms and just wait for them to run up to it.” He said.
I nodded, understanding him, “Hmm… You said you were a Smoker, right?” I asked him, he nodded, “Did you… Hang around with other infected or were you by yourself?” I asked.
He turned to me, “Why all the questions? What is this? An interview?” he asked.
“I’m trying to think of where they can be… Well?” I asked as we hurried down the hall, I stopped and shinned my flashlight into a room and smiled, “Jackpot,” I whispered to myself as I grabbed the pills and pipe bomb. I rushed back to Fred who was busy shooting, “Careful! There’s a car! Don’t-!” I did a face-palm as he accidentally shot the blinking car setting off the alarm, “Fred you dufis!” I shouted backing up against a wall crouching down waiting for the horde to come.
Fred looked over at me and grinned, “My bad.” He said, I sighed and pulled out my pipe bomb just as the horde started to rush from down the street, I tossed the home made explosive into the middle of the street and watched as the zombies danced around it before it blew up killing them, “So?” I asked again turning to Fred as I shot one last zombie that seemed a little late with the horde.
“Yeah, I did hang around with some other infected. They were mainly other Smokers.” Fred explained, “Pretty much every Smoker in town knew each other.” He said as we walked down the street staying in the shadows, shooting the few zombies that would get near us.
“Really? Uh, did any of you know a Smoker named Shane?” I asked, as he turned down another alley way. Now we were just walking around trying to find some kind of Safe Room.
Fred stopped walking and looked over at me, “How do you know Shane?” he asked.
I stopped too and leaned against the wall, “When I was infected he kinda stayed with our group. How do you know him?” I asked.
Fred looked around before saying, “I’m his brother.”

I feel like such a fail for not getting this out weeks later. DX
But then again, my laptop was flooded with viruses and shit and I was scared to write anything in case it wouldn't save or something. But I think it's fixed.
And I completely understand if you guys stop reading this because of my slow updates. DX
Well, Tuesday school starts and after that I'm going to try and update with a chapter at least once a week. No specif day just some day. So this is the chapter for this week and you won't be seeing the next one till next week.
Yeahh... There's no picture because I couldn't find a good one.
